The design
In 1992 the Macomb County city of East Detroit voted to rename itself Eastpointe, reaching for an association with the Grosse Pointes next door rather than the city it had been named after. The paperwork went through. The habit did not. Thirty-plus years later a lot of people who grew up there still say East Detroit, and this shirt is for exactly that stubbornness – a small, extremely local joke that lands hard inside the city limits and nowhere else.

Questions about this tee
When did East Detroit become Eastpointe? Residents voted to change the name in 1992. The new name borrowed from the neighbouring Grosse Pointes. It remains one of the more openly discussed municipal rebrands in Metro Detroit, which is part of why the joke still works.
Will people outside Macomb County get it? Mostly not, and that is the appeal. It reads as a plain statement to anyone else and as a whole argument to anyone from there. Shirts that only work locally tend to be the ones people actually wear.
What size should I order? True to size on a standard unisex blank – order your usual t-shirt size, or one up for a roomier fit. Sizes S through 6XL.
